About the Event

WPC 2026 will unite poultry scientists, industry leaders, academics, and students across disciplines to share research, ideas, and build lasting connections.

Set in the vibrant city of Toronto—WPC 2026 will take over the Metro Toronto Convention Center for the event! The global poultry sector is a vital, rapidly growing industry focused on providing affordable, high-quality protein, with chickens being the most common, derived from Southeast Asian red jungle fowl. Major production hubs include the US, China, Brazil, and the EU, which dominate global output. Key organizations driving this industry include the World Poultry Foundation (WPF), which supports small-scale farmers in developing regions to improve livelihoods, and the World's Poultry Science Association (WPSA), which advances scientific knowledge through research and conferences.

Highlights

Production Leader: Poultry meat continues to outpace other protein sources, with production exceeding 139 million metric tons in 2023.

Top Producers (2024/2025): The United States leads with 20% of global production, followed by China (15%), Brazil (14%), and the European Union (11%).

Key Trends & Consumption: Poultry is the most consumed livestock commodity globally, especially in developing markets. Demand is driven by its role as an affordable, high-quality protein.

Trade & Imports: Sub-Saharan Africa is projected to remain the top importer of poultry, driven by population growth and urbanization.

Major Exporters: The United States is the world's second-largest broiler exporter.

Disease Challenges: The industry is fighting the impact of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), which has caused massive losses, such as over 50 million birds in the US (2014-2015) and recent, severe outbreaks in Poland.
